Brawl Stars is actively working on updates to eliminate duplicate characters from its matchmaking system.
Brawl Stars is a mobile multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) and third-person shooter game. This allows players to enjoy both cooperative and competitive gameplay. The game has been around since 2018 and is constantly making changes to improve everyone’s experience.
On February 4, Frank Keienburg, Brawl Stars’ general manager, conducted a poll on how to handle changing maps. Although the tweet was supposed to focus on the game’s maps, some players spoke about the meta.
One player stated: “Hey Frank, sorry if this is something you’re saying a lot but, I think it would be a good idea to focus on the balance of the meta…” Another expressed that the game had been unplayable due to the multiple Larry and Lawrie’s in the game and needed an emergency nerf.
In response to these tweets, Frank Keienburg stated that they were aware of the need to nerf Larry and Lawrie and remove the duplicates from matchmaking. They have been working on improving the experience for everyone and wished for the majority of the replies to stay on topic.
As promised in a recent maintenance update, they did nerf Larry & Lawrie as well as Maisie. For the former, they had multiple changes, such as health reduction and the number of hits needed to charge their Super. These changes were implemented to balance the current meta, as Larry and Lawrie have been dominating the game since their arrival.

They have already implemented one of the changes they stated that they were working on, but they have yet to address the removal of duplicates from the matchmaking. It may come in a later update for the game. As fun as it is to be able to choose whichever brawler you want to play, it can still be disruptive to many players.
The developers of the Brawl Stars are continuously working on improving the players’ experiences. While you wait for the map changes and removal of duplicates, check out our Brawl Stars tier list to see the current meta!
