Japanese Valorant pro team Detonation FocusMe defies expectations as they clinch their first VCT series win, with Meiy scoring week-high ACS in Pacific Stage 1.
All eyes are on Detonation FocusMe (DFM) coming into VCT Pacific Stage 1. While most teams garner audiences and fans worldwide due to their winning streaks and trophies, DFM has experienced the opposite throughout its Valorant pro-scene run.
Since the team was announced as one of the partnered teams in VCT Pacific, the Japanese team has failed to secure a win in the S-teir competition. That is until their world-changing win against T1 in the second week of VCT Pacific Stage 1.
DFM defied all odds and expectations as they defeated T1 with two maps to one, marking their first win in VCT since the introduction of the partnership format. Moreover, DFM’s duelist Meiy gains fans worldwide as he tops the chart of highest ACS for Week 2.
For years, Detonation FocusMe has been continuously dubbed the “worst team” or the “unluckiest” team in the Valorant pro scene. Even the most popular streamers and Valorant analysts have jokingly bet to “blow up his house” if DFM wins.
Despite DFM’s lackluster pro history, the roster finally turned the story around with their come-from-behind win against VCT Kickoff Pacific semi-finalist T1. The South Korean team is no easy opponent, as T1’s current roster pushed the team to a dominant record in the last regional tournament.
Among the biggest surprises of DFM’s win is their duelist, Meiy, who raked in 291 ACS throughout the series. This is also the first time DFM scored an appearance in individual player performance rankings in the Pacific.
Meiy was a dominant Raze, reaching 64 kills to only 48 deaths across the three-map game against T1. Moreover, the duelist also consistently ranked first in frags for DFM in the BO3 series.
DFM’s next match is against DRX, where the Japanese team hopes to replicate their favorable results and start a winning streak to rewrite their VCT story.
