Valorant’s new controller, Clove, is catching players caught off-guard with their unique ult charge rule.
Valorant is a 5v5 free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) from Riot Games. The game is centered around one’s aim skills and utilizing the Agent’s skills to win rounds and hopefully win their games.
There are four Agent roles: Sentinel, Duelist, Initiator, and Controller. In the newest act, the new Agent Clove was released and could be unlocked by acquiring experience points through playing games. It’s evident that the new Agent has become popular, with many lower-elo players auto-locking them.
While players continue to pick Clove in their game lobbies, they notice they don’t get a charge of their ultimate after dying. They begin to wonder whether this was intended or a bug.
The Reddit user shared that they have been playing Clove a lot since unlocking the Agent, but they have faced an inconsistency when getting Ult points on death. They shared that sometimes, on 6/7 Ult charges, they get their Ult on death, but there are other times when they don’t. They weren’t sure if their mind was playing tricks or if it was intended.
Another Valorant player agreed that this might be intended but raised concerns about Clove dropping their primary weapon when reviving using their ultimate. In another comment, they agreed that it was intended as they believed that Riot wouldn’t want her Ult to cost only six Ult charges. Players may just rush in site knowing they’d have their Ultimate up anyway.
As someone who’s been spamming the Controller in Competitive, I did notice that I wasn’t getting the Ult charge instantly upon death like when using other Agents. I believe this balances her ability, and where the importance of getting Ult orbs come in. This is understandable, but dropping the Primary gun when using their Ultimate is definitely frustrating. From my understanding, it should work like Reyna’s Dismiss. It places Clove players at a disadvantage as they would only have a Classic or a Sidearm equipped.
Upon watching Valorant players on YouTube, they also found a potential bug when being suppressed by KAY/O’s knife after using Clove’s Ultimate. Keeoh was able to use their Ultimate and reposition themselves but got suppressed with KAY/O’s knife. They bugged out afterward, suddenly facing the way which was the same direction before they used the Ultimate.
Clove is a fun Agent to use, whether it’s Unrated, Competitive, or even during Scrims. They may have the shortest smoke duration, but they have a powerful kit that makes them useful for the team. Currently, there are no patch updates addressing these issues that players are facing with the Agent.
