You’d think you wouldn’t feel pressured in a game, but Stardew Valley proves otherwise, as your partner may call you out.
Stardew Valley is a charming and relaxing farming simulation in which you start your new life caring for the old farm plot your grandfather entrusted you with. The game was developed and published by ConcernedApe and released in 2016.
The game has a special place in many gamers’ hearts and mine. There are many things that could be done, from regular activities such as farming and fishing to going around town to talk and build relationships with the villagers.
There are many villagers with whom players can have a romantic relationship, from being good friends to being their partner. Eventually, you can get married to them, even holding a wedding ceremony that the other villagers would attend.
A Stardew Valley player had been in a relationship with Haley, one of the bachelorettes, and was surprised by one of her dialogues.
They shared that if one took too long to get married to their in-game partner, they would get a dialogue similar to the one they shared. Haley told the farmer, “So, what’s the idea here… am I just going to be your ‘girlfriend’ forever…?”
The dialogue made the original poster realize they’d been grinding too much. They restarted the day to upgrade their farmhouse, made a rain totem to get the pendant a day after, and cleaned the house to prepare for their marriage with Haley.
Another Stardew Valley player found such dialogue cool as it added more dynamics to the characters. Unlike the original poster, they propose as soon as they get the pendant, so they don’t experience these dialogues themselves.
One player shared that they found different dialogues in the game’s files. Abigail would say, “Uh… We’ve been dating for almost a year. Is this going anywhere?” Sebastian’s is actually sweet: “Hey… It’s been a year since we started dating, remember? It’s been the best year of my life.” Other marriage candidates seem not to have such dialogues.
It still amazes me how much personality the game has, from the characters to the world itself. Stardew Valley has been around for years and still charms new and old players. Definitely waiting for Haunted Chocolatier and can’t wait to see what it has to offer!
