Auto-petters are one of the rarest items in Stardew Valley, and one unfortunate player lost theirs when it could’ve been retrieved.
Stardew Valley is a cozy and relaxing indie farming simulation game developed and published by ConcernedApe. Players would take on the role of a farmer who inherited their grandfather’s old farm.
In addition to farming-related tasks such as planting crops and caring for animals, players could also fish in various locations, meet the villagers and get to know them, delve into the mines and caverns for ores, and more.
While on a Skull Cavern run, a Stardew Valley player found an Auto-Petter but ended up passing out. This led to them losing the item as well as a Red Slime Egg. They tried to use Marlon’s Item Recovery Service, but the Auto-Petter didn’t have a price.
Auto-petters are rare, as you can only get it from the Skull Cavern treasure rooms, golden mystery boxes with a 0.5% chance, or events. It’s more accessible if you do the Joja route, however, as you can purchase it for 50,000g after completing the Development Form. This loss can sting if you’re doing the Community Center route.
A Reddit user shared that the auto-petter having no price means that Marlon would retrieve it for free. They stated that the retrieve price is calculated based on the item’s sell price. They concluded that unsellable items such as the auto-petter would be returned for free.
The original poster then revealed that they didn’t even click on the Auto-petter while on the item retrieval menu. They shared that they were being dumb and reset the day, but they weren’t able to get the auto-petter again in the caverns.
The Stardew Valley player thought this was funny in a painful way. They shared that they don’t usually get the rewards or have a chance to lose them. This was a lesson learned for them.
My heart would break if I lost something as valuable as the auto-petter, especially if I were on a Community Center run. Hopefully, no one else will go through what this Stardew Valley player went through and just click options whenever possible.
