A Stardew Valley mod design has a Joja Warehouse farm map with unique indoor features.
Stardew Valley is an indie farming simulation game developed and published by ConcernedApe. The game was released in 2016 initially for the PC, with other platforms coming in the next years. The developer continues to provide updates to the game, with the latest 1.6.6 update rolled out on April 27, 2024.
Players assume the role of the farmer who acquires their grandpa’s old farm and lives a new life in Stardew Valley. They can buy and plant crops per season, fish in the Beach, mine and explore in the Mines and Cavern, or relax with the villagers of Pelican Town and other locations.
Players can choose between the different farm maps with their own perks when starting a new game. A Stardew Valley player had been designing a mod with a new farm type — the Joja Warehouse, which would make the Joja route more unique.
The Reddit user shared that the Joja Route could be more rewarding by adding to the town and dialogue. While Stardew Valley Expanded, a popular mod, fixes this, there are still those who don’t want the additional NPC. The new thing that they’d love is to add a new farm type which is the Joja Warehouse.
There are pros and cons to the Joja Warehouse, with pros being: No crows since it is indoors, there’s no season limitation to crops, “Large Floor-Level-Fishtank” which is an square indoor lake for fishing, Joja deliveries (free items) and no overgrowth in the beginning. Cons include: No lightning and rain, and crops are lower quality due to artificial lighting.
The Stardew Valley player also plans to change the dialogue to connect everything, such as nobody referring to the warehouse as a farm, recognizing that the player works for Joja, and Grandpa not giving a deed of a farm.
Many of the players, while grossed out at the idea of being Joja, loved the poster. They also pitched their ideas to the mod designer, such as having a wider variety of seeds with a discount at JojaMart. Another fan proposed a prologue where the corporates at Joja promoted the player to run one of their countryside warehouses.
The ideas are promising and seem like a fun take on Joja, and I might even start a Joja playthrough if this is released. However, the Stardew Valley player designing the mod stated that while they weren’t new to development, they’d never tried to make a mod for the game. They didn’t promise whether the idea would get out of the design phase.
