Supercell’s grand return to the new mobile game space is finally here with the worldwide launch of Squad Busters! Climb the ranks with ease with our character tier list for Squad Busters.
It’s never too early to grasp the ropes and anticipate the meta of Squad Busters. While all characters surely have their own perks and niche uses, some are undoubtedly made better than others. Here’s our tier list for the best Characters in Squad Busters!

S Tier
ARCHER QUEEN | Much like the meta in Clash of Clans, the Archer Queen also reigns supreme in Supercell’s newest title. She is the most powerful ranged unit, especially with her ability to shoot exploding arrows and the self-sustaining 3-star upgrade that lets her heal when off the battle. |
WITCH | The Witch is the best “bang for your buck” unit, as she summons skeletons to serve as your front line and extra damage on the battlefield. |
TANK | As one of the only three characters from Boom Beach, Tank is here to represent the mighty power of the shores. She has the ability to control the Tanks on the map, with her next abilities ramping up her damage. |
HOG RIDER | The need for speed is real with the Hog Rider. With this character, your team gains extra Boost and movement speed on grass and bushes. Aside from his passive ability, the Hog Rider also blows decent damage that can greatly aid “busting” enemies. |
PENNY | Penny is both brawls and brains – this high-damage character also locates treasures around the map. Upon her 5-star upgrade, Penny’s loots drop more gems and coins than usual, making it easier to climb the rankings with these sweet and secret drops! |
BARBARIAN KING | Aside from his damage, Barbarian King’s biggest perk is the buffs he grants to your melee units. With the Barbarian King in your team, all your melee units will attack faster. He also possesses the passive ability of the Archer Queen of self-healing when not in battle. While the Barbarian King is a strong unit, you may only get a few Epic units in one game (aside from the Epic Overload Battle Mod). He’ll fall behind as a priority, given the Witch and the Archer Queen’s prowess. |
A Tier
BARBARIAN | One of the best starting units in the game, the Barbarian is all you’ll need to start your journey in Squad Busters. He can attack he has a good chunk of health, and his Fusions are great – what more do you need? |
HEAVY | Heavy is all about dealing “heavy damage,” his 4-star ultra skill also has the “life steal” ability where he heals more while shooting faster. |
MORTIS | Mortis has the special ability to resurrect fallen Monsters of your squad – which comes in handy if you’re in the mood to do aggressive plays and bust out other enemy squads quickly. Mortis can summon tanky monsters such as the Giant Skeleton, which can act as a meat shield for your team. |
WIZARD | Aside from his damage, my favorite thing about the Wizard is his Classic ability, which lets you hold two spells simultaneously. While being an A-tier unit, remember that you’ll likely only need one Wizard in your team at a time, as their effects and abilities do not stack. |
BEA | Bea is unlockable in the Desert World stage of Squad Busters. Her special ability is to inflict damage and summon a horde of bees that can act as a “turret” that attacks anyone who dares enter Bea’s vicinity. |
MAX | Max lets your whole team go “Lightning McQueen” and easily escape (or attack, if you’re feeling aggressive) enemies on the battlefield. |
BO | Bo may not be your standard damage dealer or tank meat shield, but he means business in eliminating monsters across the battlefield! He also excels in obtaining blue boxes, which may contribute e greatly to a snowball start for your team. |
B Tier
NITA | Nita summons a tough bear to serve as the frontline of your squad, bolstering your team’s tankiness and letting you focus on obtaining more DPS as you go. |
BATTLE HEALER | The Battle Healer, unlike other support units, only heals depending on her Fusion level. When not busy tending to her squadmates, the Battle Healer deals 120 damage to enemies. |
GOBLIN | The Goblin is a great character for a snowball start, making sure that you won’t lag behind your enemies who had a Greg start or ones who were able to crack a blue box right away! |
SHELLY | Shelly is one of the best self-sustaining characters in the game. She’s a great ranged unit, as she fires widespread ranged attacks that can damage multiple enemy team members. |
MEDIC | Unlike the Battle Healer, the Medic has the ability to heal your squad as you go passively. However, the healing spell will do the job quite as well without taking the much-needed slot for DPS in your team. |
GREG | Greg’s specialty may not be in combat, but he’s sure worth the catch in earlier gameplay, where cutting down trees is far more rewarding than killing enemies. In your Green World journey, make sure to include Greg in your first three characters to rake up coins and gems far more easily. |
MAVIS | Mavis may not be your go-to unit on the battlefield, but her Super-level upgrade grants healing aside from getting bonus coins from a Carrot patch. |
COLT | As the first ranged unit in the game, Colt leaves much to desire in his kit. But if you’re still early in your Squad Busters journey, he’s a good recruit to include a variety in your mostly-melee team. |
ROYAL KING | The Royal King’s decree is to summon Royal Recruits in your team. While this could be an appealing trick at the start, other troops and units higher on this list are more worthy of the grind over the Royal King. |
EL PRIMO | El Primo is only great in early gameplay, where you don’t have a lot of choice. When asked to choose between the Barbarian, El Primo, or Greg in early games, I’d least likely pick El Primo. |
TRADER | The battlefield means business, but not necessarily the kind that the Trader does. This character heals the Squad a little when giving gems (on top of his Baby ability to give two gems every 15 coins). Considering that there are far better ways to obtain Gems as you go, the Trader quickly falls down our Squad Busters tier list. |
C Tier
DYNAMIKE | Dynamike’s kit is designed as an attacker. But his minimal damage (half of the usual damage of other troops) raises the question of “why would you recruit this man into your team in the first place?” |
PAM | With so many self-healing troops and dedicated support units on the higher tiers of this list, Pam’s Heal Station may not be as useful the further you go in your Squad Busters journey. |
CHICKEN | You either love the Chicken or absolutely loathe it. Compared to the other Characters’ abilities, the Chicken’s speed boost and extra boots are lackluster. But sure, it’s a cute addition to your team. |
