Riot Games may be planning to expand the League of Legends event calendar with another international event in 2025.
League of Legends is undoubtedly the most awaited and sought-after Esports event annually. The grand World finals reach millions of viewers, and regional tournaments gather audiences around the globe.
With a pro scene as widely celebrated as LoL, it is understandable that many fans yearn for more. Whether or not you’re a fan of the classics like T1 or enjoy an underdog tale, League of Legends fans will always yearn for more – and we might get more international events soon.
Riot Games is said to be planning a third international event alongside the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the World Championship. Some sources suggest that at least one team per major region will be invited to the event.
While the rumor has very limited details, many fans are eager to see more face-to-face action between teams from different regions. Most notably, LoL fans think it’s time for some teams that have yet to win an international trophy to get a chance to shine onstage.
Some fans noted that the LEC (EMEA Region) may have decided to move to a three-split season (Winter, Spring, and Summer) to accommodate the possibility of a new international event.
Meanwhile, other fans are concerned with the chances of regional tournaments ending up with a butchered schedule and format to make space and time for a third international meet. Two of the biggest LoL regions, LPL of China and LCK of Korea, currently have a double round-robin format.
On the other side, some fans hope to see lower-ranked teams in an international event. While a “losers queue” has been recently debunked by the LoL devs, it seems like fans would like to see a similar concept at the pro level.
Despite the excitement, Riot Games has yet to speak or release a teaser on the possibility of a third international event. As for the 2024 season, the MSI will kick off in the first week of May, with the second split of regional tournaments soon after.
