G2 Esports General Manager has revealed that Hans Sama was heavily affected by an “absurd amount” of death threats after their nailbiter match against T1.
G2 Esports’ landslide win against LPL’s Top Esports was a momentous success for the European team and the whole EMEA Region, which has recently received continuous criticism for being a weaker League of Legends pro region.
Despite G2’s success in their ongoing Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) bid, it seems like the limelight has been giving the team’s players a harder time. In a post-match interview, G2’s General Manager, Romain Bigeard, revealed that their famed Bot Laner had received absurd threats after a near-win against T1.
Bigeard also expressed his appreciation for Hans Sama’s performance in their recent match despite the toxic environment the pro player currently faces.
G2 was able to push the series against T1 to a fifth do-or-die match, but many fans pointed fingers at Hans Sama as the culprit behind the European team’s failure to close it out.
Among the opinions of G2 fans include the fact that the game would’ve been close had Hans Sama bought a Lord Dominik’s Regard item. In a recent post on X, the bot laner alluded to the public sentiment after their win against TES.
Many fans speculated that the numerous death threats may come from League of Legends fans who placed their bets on the European team. Most notably, G2 Esports was graded with a 33:1 return in Esports betting websites before the T1 game.
Since the five-map game was an edge-of-your-seat series, with G2 almost securing the win, fans may have been carried away by the possibility of a huge payout if they won.
The series may not be the last face-off between T1 and G2 in MSI 2024. G2 Esports is still waiting for the match winner between T1 and Team Liquid to determine who the European team will face in their next match.
