Aside from pledging to continue banning Ahri upon release, League of Legends fans are now outraged by the “double the grind pass” for Faker’s Hall of Legends collection.
From excitement to fury- that’s what most League of Legends players feel for the much-awaited Faker Ahri skin that we now have, thanks to the Hall of Legends. Faker and T1 fans, some who have waited years for the skin, are now slamming Riot Games for the exorbitant cost.
While initial threats of players to constantly ban the champion to shame Riot Games on the pricing seemed to be a meme rather than a pledge, Ahri’s ban rate skyrocketed on June 12, 2024, the release date of the said skin.
Beyond the initial outrage over the $500 skin, players criticize the nearly impossible-to-accomplish Hall of Legends event pass. The pass has 100 levels, and you could only unlock Risen Legends LeBlanc on the last, making it extremely hard to accomplish in only three weeks.
Some players speculate that Riot Games is also using the extra levels to get players to spend more on the pass. They also criticize that the better rewards on the pass only start at level 53, with prior rewards consisting of only normal post-game loot.
On a Reddit thread, Riot Meddler defended the cost of the Hall of Legends skin, claiming it is a great opportunity to celebrate Faker’s achievements and “support esports.” However, fans were far from happy with this revelation.
Some Ahri-main League of Legends players believe they’ve been “caught in the crossfire,” especially over the champion’s rising ban rating, due to Riot Games wanting the bundle to support its pro scene.
Moreover, some players believe it shouldn’t be the burden of Faker and T1 fans to support League of Legends’ already successful esports market.
With the current temperament of the League of Legends and esports fan community regarding the overpriced setting, the expensive price tag of Ahri skin will likely not perform as well as expected.
Sure, the prestige of the first Hall of Legends skill and inductee sure is worth more money than your usual Elemental Lux, but I would’ve bet that the Ahri skin raked more income for Riot Games if it cost more reasonably than a whopping $500.
