A Genshin Impact player opening a chest found themselves in a race with the sword as it bounces away to the sea.
Genshin Impact is an open-world action role-playing game developed and published by HoYoverse, initially released in September 2020. The game is known for its open-world environment and the freedom it gives players to explore at their own pace.
There are currently a total of five regions available for exploration in the game which are Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, and Fontaine. Travelers may unlock these locations by completing story quests and activating the Statues of the Seven. While they explore the vast world, they also encounter chests that could be opened to gain rewards.
Finding these treasure chests is often a delight for players, but not when the rewards do their best to run away from the player. A user shared a clip on Reddit which showed them opening an exquisite chest normally. They were able to grab the other rewards quickly, but the Skyrider Greatsword was able to escape and started to bounce down the mountain. This resulted in the sword being lost in the sea, with only its ‘star’ remaining on the surface.
Another player also experienced the same thing but in Dragonspine. The area is also full of mountains and high places players must climb to get certain chests. They shared: “This happened to me at the top of dragonspine. Never did find it and likely never will.”
Others have expressed that newer players who have exploration-savvy characters like Xianyun have it lucky. They couldn’t imagine chasing after the sword with Barbara or other characters, as they do not have movement-enhancing skills.
A player shared that this was accurate to the lore of the Skyrider Greatsword. As stated in the description of the greatsword, “A reliable steel sword. The legendary Skyrider once tried to ride it as a flying sword.”
The original poster revealed that they couldn’t recover the lost Skyrider Greatsword. Another Genshin Impact player shared a tip that if an item sunk underwater, one could just drown themselves, and it would respawn with them. It’s also possible to just teleport to another location, and the item should also be there, as stated in another reply.
Quickly picking up the items from chests in Genshin Impact can be challenging, but there are those that are automatically picked up after opening them. These are mostly found in high areas of Teyvat. The next time you find yourself a chest in the game, make sure to spam the designated pick-up button so you don’t lose them!
