Unicorn Overlord devs state they have “no plans” for DLC or porting the game to PC despite its successful launch.
Unicorn Overlord is a tactical role-playing game (RPG) with overworld exploration. It was developed by Vanillaware and published worldwide by Sega and in Japan by Atlus. The game was released on March 8, 2024, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Players would play as Alain, the exiled prince now leading the Liberation Army. The game offers a fresh take on the usual tactical RPG format. Characters are divided into teams which could be customized before heading to battles. In combat, the formed teams would collectively go against enemy units instead of individually placing them on square tiles like in Fire Emblem.
Unicorn Overlord had an impressive launch. It sold over 500,000 copies worldwide, a few days shy of its first month. Many fans seem to want a PC port and DLC, but the Unicorn Overlord producer stated that they have no plans for them.
In an exclusive interview with Gamerbraves, they asked whether Unicorn Overlord would have additional downloadable content (DLC), to which Producer Akiyasu Yamamoto immediately stated that there were no plans at the moment.
With the game’s impressive success and the PC as a growing platform for Japanese publishers, many wondered if there would be a PC port. The producer then answered, “Ultimately, as the publisher, it was Atlus that decided which platforms Unicorn Overlord would release on, and we are deeply thankful for Vanillaware’s willingness to cooperate. Unfortunately, we currently have no plans to port Unicorn Overlord to PC.”
While it is unfortunate that the developers and publishers currently have no plans for additional content or ports, many players still hoped they would in the future as they would love a DLC for more post-game content.
Another Unicorn Overlord fan stated that Vanillaware, the game’s developer, rarely did DLC, so they expected as much. They would expect a patch that fixes English translation typos and maybe a New Game Plus (NG+) that allows players to start a new game, keeping all their items, characters, and levels.
Players would have to stick to playing Unicorn Overlord for the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox X/S for the time being until the devs decide if they’ll port the game to the PC.
