AFK Journey: Honor Duel Guide
Honor Duel in AFK Journey
Honor Duel is a fair-play battle mode in AFK Journey that challenges players to showcase their strategic prowess in a balanced competitive environment. Unlike other game modes where resources and upgrades might give players an edge, Honor Duel levels the playing field, making strategy, team composition, and tactical decision-making the keys to success.
In this mode, participants are tasked with crafting a team from a selection of heroes and an artifact, each match becoming a test of their ability to synergize abilities, predict opponents’ moves, and adapt to the ever-changing dynamics of battle.

Honor Duel Rules
Here’s a breakdown of the core rules governing Honor Duels:
- Lives Count: Every participant starts with three HP. Losing thrice means disqualification from the current tournament, emphasizing the importance of each battle.
- Victory Conditions: Triumph in Honor Duel requires accumulating nine wins.
- Hero Ascension: Duplication is crucial in enhancing your heroes’ prowess. Two duplicates of a hero elevate them to Legendary status, while six duplicates are required to achieve the coveted Mythic tier—the pinnacle of hero evolution in Honor Duels.
- Equipment Rules: Each hero can wield only one piece of equipment. This limitation necessitates careful consideration of which items best complement your heroes’ abilities and the overall team strategy.
- The battlegrounds are fluid, with arena configurations potentially shifting after each battle. This variability adds a layer of unpredictability, compelling players to adapt their strategies to new environments.
- Hero Placement: The reveal of heroes unfolds in two strategic rounds. Initially, contenders place three heroes on the battlefield. After sixty seconds, the final two team members are deployed. This phased approach allows tactical adjustments based on early observations of the opponent’s lineup.
- Once combat commences, the clash is governed by Auto Battle. This rule bars player intervention during fights, placing a premium on pre-battle strategy and hero synergy.
Start Honor Duel with your preferred style
When starting in Honor Duel, you are given four choices for a starting team. This includes one artifact and three heroes, setting the stage for your strategic journey in this fair-play battle mode. Three of the teams are pre-made teams, and the last one is random, which will give you a random artifact and heroes.
The artifact you choose becomes the base of your team, imbuing your heroes with unique buffs, stats, and, at times, debuffs that can significantly influence the outcome of battles. As your artifact gains experience through battle engagements or by ascending your heroes, it evolves, unlocking new levels and effects that bolster your team’s capabilities.
You can choose between two artifact effects at one star, allowing you to customize your strategy further. Achieving two stars on your artifact automatically adds an effect, broadening your strategic arsenal.
Make sure to choose an artifact that suits your playstyle and your planned team setup since using the right artifact with the right team will increase your chances of victory.
For example, the ones above are your initial artifact and team selection; select your preferred option. I personally like to play Graveborn heroes, as they are very strong. Since it is not here in the selection, I could click on play random. Play around with these selections and find the best fit for you and your play style.
Honor Duel Store
The Honor Duel Store is where players can spend their Honor Badges to buy heroes and equipment. Initially, after the starting selection, you are introduced to the store. You can earn Honor Badges after each battle and spend them here. You can also reroll the shop for three Honor Badges, but it is recommended that you reroll when you have enough currency to buy something from it.
I recommend buying the Random All-Faction Heroes during the start to get your hands on a diverse range of characters and if you’re lucky, you can get strong heroes and duplicates in order to have a good head start. Also, in case when you don’t get the heroes you need, you can go for the Random one to get your chances of getting them.
Once you have figured out what team you like to use, you can sell the extra heroes to earn badges and continue to reroll the shop to ascend your heroes. Make sure to also check for equipment that you can use.
In case you don’t have enough badges to buy the heroes or equipment you need, the Honor Duel Store has a locking mechanism. Even if you reroll the shop or enter battle, the items will stay in the store no matter what, so make sure to also take advantage of this.
Honor Duel Battle
At the start of the match, both players are able to position three heroes each. Note that once you confirm your position, you can no longer change it, so make sure that you are firm with your placement. Also, note that there is a timer, so once the timer is up, the game will automatically position heroes for you.
Once both players have confirmed their three heroes, both positions will be revealed, and the last two heroes can be placed. Once the last two heroes are deployed, the auto-battle will commence, and a player may win, lose, or draw, so make sure to think your position through before locking it.
I recommend positioning your tank and supports first during the first phase so that you can comfortably position your DPS character in the second phase. This will allow you to counter the position of your enemies’ DPS and increase your chances of winning.
Honor Duel Tips
Here are essential tips to help you navigate the complexities of Honor Duel and emerge victorious:
- Analyze and Adapt: Pay close attention during the first phase of hero placement. Your opponent’s initial formation can provide valuable clues about their strategy. Use this insight to strategically place your remaining heroes in the second phase, exploiting weaknesses or reinforcing defenses.
- Synergy is Key: Focus on hero combinations that work well together. Certain heroes can amplify each other’s strengths through their abilities, creating formidable combinations that can overwhelm opponents. Understanding these synergies and how they counter different enemy setups is crucial.
- Get a healer: A healer will keep the team alive, especially in crucial stages. There were lots of times that I was saved by my healer on the brink of dying, so don’t underestimate them.
- Know Your Artifacts: Each artifact offers unique effects that can significantly impact the battlefield. Familiarize yourself with the specifics of your artifact and how its progression affects your team’s performance.
- Master the Store: The Honor Duel Store is your resource for strengthening your team. Initially, purchasing three random heroes is a solid strategy for building your team’s core. However, as the game progresses, focus on acquiring heroes and equipment that fill specific roles or address weaknesses in your lineup.
- Refreshing Wisely: Don’t hesitate to use the refresh option in the Honor Duel Store, especially if the available heroes or equipment don’t align with your needs. However, be mindful of your honor badges and prioritize your spending to ensure you can make crucial purchases when needed.
- Utilize Locking: If you find a hero or piece of equipment critical to your strategy but lack the necessary honor badges, use the locking feature. This ensures the item remains available in the next round, allowing you to plan your badge expenditure more effectively.
- Keep buying hero duplicates: Ascending your characters to gain an advantage against your enemy is essential. Having a highly ascended hero means that they will have higher stats. It doesn’t matter if you have many heroes when your main team is not ascended.
- Sell heroes: Sell the heroes you don’t intend to use so you can stock up on Honor Badges. It’s better to focus on a team rather than having an extensive roster.
Honor Duel Best heroes
I like to play Graveborn heroes in all modes. I usually use them because I find them the most fun to play. I find Cecia in Honor Duel good because she exceptionally shines in any game mode, considering she is one of the best heroes in the game. Her damage output is high enough to deal damage against enemies and she becomes even better with the right equipment.
I also find Igor very good to play. He can easily sustain himself, but he can get really annoying as he can buy so much time by jumping through the graves. He escaped death so many times during my playthrough with him, so I recommend using him whenever you can, especially when you are going for a Graveborn team in Honor Duel.
Generally, the best heroes you can use in Honor Duel are those performing well in our AFK Journey tier list, so check it out!
