AFK Journey Faction Guide
Factions in AFK Journey
Esperia is home to six factions: Lightbearers, Maulers, Wilders, Graveborn, Celestial, and Hypogean. Each Faction offers a unique set of heroes with specific strengths and lore. For example, the Lightbearers fight to restore Esperia from evil, while the Hypogeans seek to spread darkness across the land. Each hero belongs to one Faction in the game.

Lightbearers
The Lightbearers stand as beacons of hope and valor in Esperia. Champions of light and justice, they are determined to fend off the darkness that encroaches upon their land. With a steadfast commitment to peace and order, they draw their strength from unity and the divine favor of Dura, the goddess of life.
Some heroes in the Lightbearer Faction:
Maulers
The Maulers embody the primal force of nature—raw, untamed, and ferocious. They value strength and honor, living by a code that the strong shall lead and the weak shall follow. Their culture is a testament to the survival of the fittest, thriving in the harsh environments of Esperia.
Some heroes in the Mauler Faction:
Wilders
Guardians of the natural world, the Wilders have a symbiotic relationship with the forests of Esperia. They are deeply connected to nature’s magic, drawing their power from the ancient tree Yggdrasil and the springs of life. As stewards of the environment, they protect nature’s balance against those who would seek to destroy it.
Some heroes in the Wilder Faction:
Graveborn
The Graveborn faction represents the cycle of death and rebirth in its darkest form. Resurrected through necromancy, these undead beings seek to extend their existence by any means necessary. Though their allegiance to the Hypogeans is ambiguous, their thirst for immortality drives them to terrifying ends.
Some heroes in the Graveborn Faction:
Celestials
Celestials are beings of divine origin, acting as the counterbalance to the chaos wrought by the Hypogeans. They intervene in the affairs of Esperia to guide its inhabitants toward a path of light and order. Their presence alone can turn the tide of any conflict, embodying the pinnacle of power and grace.
Heroes in the Celestial Faction:
Hypogeans
The Hypogeans embody darkness and chaos. They seek to undo Dura’s creation and spread corruption across Esperia. Their power is drawn from the void, and they seek not just dominion but the utter subjugation and ruin of all that is good.
Heroes in the Hypogeans Faction:
Faction Bonus
The Faction Bonus activates when you deploy heroes from the same faction within your team. This bonus enhances the Attack (ATK) and Health Points (HP) of all deployed heroes, substantially boosting your team’s performance in battles. This scales +10%/14%/18%/22% depending on how many heroes of the same Faction you deploy.
The bonus scales with the number of heroes from the same faction present in your lineup, as follows:
- Three Heroes from the Same Faction: When you deploy three heroes from the same faction, the ATK and HP of all deployed heroes are increased by 10%.
- Three Heroes from the Same Faction + Two Heroes from Another: An extension of the bonus, if you have a lineup with three heroes from one faction and two from another (or a Celestial/Hypogean), the ATK and HP of all deployed heroes are increased by 14%.
- Four Heroes from the Same Faction: Deploying four heroes from the same faction boosts the ATK and HP of all deployed heroes by 18%.
- Five Heroes from the Same Faction: Maximizing the bonus, deploying five heroes from the same faction enhances the ATK and HP of all deployed heroes by 22%.
Note that there will be an additional +1% for every Celestial and Hypogean in your team.
Faction Strategies
Faction strategies introduce a rock-paper-scissors element to combat (similar to Pokemon), with certain factions gaining a 15% damage increase against others they’re strong against and a decrease when facing factions that have the advantage over them.
Lightbearer > Mauler > Graveborn > Lightbearer
For example, you have a Lightbearer team, and you are up against a Mauler team. Since Lightbearers is strong against Maulers, your team will deal 15% more damage, whereas if you are against Graveborns, you will deal 15% less damage.
Faction Team Building Tips
For team building, I recommend going for at least three heroes in the same faction. I don’t recommend building a team of five, as there will be far more flexibility when going for only three of the same faction.
I usually run a 3+2 or only three since I find it better than using a full team of five. Some heroes are also stronger when they are buffed by another hero from another faction, so don’t feel the need to complete the full team of the same faction; you won’t miss out on much.
Team example
An example is the team above. Brutus, Smokey & Meerky, and Kruger are all from the Mauler Faction thus, we are taking advantage of the +10% HP and ATK for the whole team.
Understanding faction relationships and bonuses is just the start. Combine heroes thoughtfully to exploit faction advantages and counter your enemies’ strengths.
