A Clash of Clans player and programmer from Canada created an image detection system to help players identify weak points in their enemy base.
In Clash of Clans, starting your attack sets your tempo and will make or break your three-star attempt. Placing your meat-shield troops, for example, in one of the heaviest-defended areas in a base may lead your attack to disappointment. Hence, the judgment of your attack starting point should always be wise.
However, one Clash of Clans player admitted that as much as they loved playing the mobile strategy game, they “sucked at them.” In CoC, enjoying the game will likely mean winning wars, taking home loot, and succeeding in your attacking strategies.
Now, what is his solution to fully reaping the enjoyment of his beloved game? Create a program that will aid him in stepping the best foot forward in his attacks.
Programmer and gamer Nathan Yan shared his Clash of Clans Image Detection System in a LinkedIn post. He details that he used Roboflow’s API tools to create the model that identifies the defense towers, their range, and key defenses that have the potential to impact the attack greatly.
Nathan further explains in his video presentation of the tool that he created JSON files, which detail the abilities of each defensive tower. The program also has a pre-determined “ranking” of the strength of each tower based on its strength and range.
The program, as of its current state, focuses on detecting air defenses and their range, which could be greatly helpful for Clash of Clans players whose attack strategy involves Lava Hounds, Balloons, and Dragons.
While the base-detection system remains in its early stage, this could be a predecessor to the future of Clash of Clans and other strategy-based games. Although the matter of introducing AI in strategy games will surely be up for debate, this also opens up more possibilities for strengthening your base-building strategies or defenses in the game!
