A nostalgic tone greets Genshin Impact players in the latest update as Paimon returns to her original voice.
Genshin Impact, a popular action role-playing game developed by HoYoverse, has continually expanded its vibrant, anime-inspired world since its release in 2020. The game has captivated millions because of its dynamic combat and extensive lore. Integral to the experience is Paimon, the player’s talkative guide, whose voice has undergone several changes, recently reverting to a more favored tone in the latest update.
Having played Genshin Impact from its earlier versions, I’ve watched Paimon evolve from a delightful guide to a character whose shrill tone often pierced the game’s ambiance. This was especially jarring during intense gameplay moments, where her high-pitched excitement felt more like an interruption. She had a squeaky voice and was often so loud that she always screamed, which became annoying to listen to.
However, the release of version 4.6, coinciding with Arlecchino’s story quest, marked a significant improvement. Paimon’s voice returned to its deeper, less pitchy roots—much to my (and many others) appreciation. This shift made her commentary more enjoyable and seemed to align better with the serious undertones of the new quest line.
Community reactions reflect a shared sentiment. A player mentioned, “Paimon’s EN voice was great in 4.6; I hope it wasn’t just a fluke.” This encapsulates the community’s hope that this change isn’t temporary. Another player emphasized how the new voice brought relief, “I also wondered why she sounded slightly different. And I felt more relief than discomfort as I usually feel with her voice.”
The feedback from the player base clearly leans towards favoring a voice that embodies calmness and maturity over squeakiness. For instance, one pointed out the unnecessary frequency of her screams: “Honestly, she improved, but the pitch aside, the problem was that she was SCREAMING ALL THE TIME!”
This return to a more pleasant vocal tone in Paimon’s character during the recent update has not just improved my experience—it has enhanced the storytelling quality of the game. It reassures us that the developers listen to feedback and are willing to adjust to enhance player satisfaction, which, hopefully, will not be only a one-time act.
As Genshin Impact continues to expand its narrative and explore new territories, the adjustment to Paimon’s voice in the latest update is a welcome change that we hope will become permanent starting with this version.
