The Primal Lord is a raid boss event in which players can work together to take down the boss—the less time it takes to kill the boss, the better the rewards.
Here are the details of the event’s structure and rewards:
- Participants can challenge the Primal Lord up to three times daily.
- An Eternal Inscription is placed at its demise site upon the boss’s defeat, honoring the top 20 damage dealers.
Rewards:
- Immediate personal rewards for each challenge are based on the total damage dealt to the Primal Lord, including:

- Gold
- Experience
- Chests
- Rankings are determined by the total damage dealt during the event, with the top 200 players receiving:
- The “Bearhunter” title

The Alpha Bear is one of the Primal Lords in AFK Journey, characterized by its massive size and honey-themed attacks that challenge players to adapt and strategize effectively.
Primal Lord Alpha Bear Mechanics
Known for its ability to deal continuous damage through honey swarms and reduce healing received by marked heroes, Alpha Bear requires careful team composition and tactical play to defeat.
Primal Lord Alpha Bear’s Attacks
Alpha Bear boasts a unique set of abilities that challenge even the most seasoned players:
- Ultimate: Alpha Bear summons a swarm of bees that continuously attack all heroes marked with honey, dealing 80% damage per second for 3 seconds. If all enemy heroes are marked, it summons a mega swarm that persists and intensifies, inflicting 250% damage per second until the end of the battle.
- Skill 1: The Alpha Bear throws a glob of sticky honey at a target hero, marking them for the remainder of the battle. This mark significantly reduces the healing received by the affected hero by 80%, and the mark cannot be dispelled, complicating recovery strategies.
- Skill 2: Targets heroes adjacent to the Alpha Bear by splashing them with honey, dealing 50% damage, and marking them. If no enemies are adjacent, the Alpha Bear performs a ground smash that sends shockwaves across the battlefield, dealing a massive 400% damage to all enemies, showcasing its prowess in area control.
- Skill 3: The Alpha Bear conjures and hurls a massive Terraball towards the enemy line. This ball rolls over any heroes in its path, dealing 100% damage to each, emphasizing the need for strategic hero positioning to avoid group damage.
Best teams against Primal Lord Alpha Bear
The Alpha Bear requires continuous healing for the team to survive longer in fights. Teams typically include a mix of supports, debuffers, tanks, and damage dealers to balance survival and offensive capabilities. Since one of the attacks of the Alpha Bear is sticky honey that deals damage, it is best to bring more than one healer.
Double Healer and DPS
Based on my team testing, this team survived the longest and dealt great damage against the Alpha Bear. This team can easily survive the continuous damage attacks by the boss by having two healers in the team, with Koko providing extra damage reduction. We also have Thoran on the team, who doubles as Tank and Debuffer. You can change Thoran to Kruger if you don’t have Thoran. You can also change the DPS in the team according to what heroes have higher ascension.

Standard Team Tank, Debuffer, Healer and DPS
This team may not survive the longest, but in my testing, I found that this team dealt the most damage to the boss. This team will excel even more if key heroes like Korin and Reinier are at Mythic+ ascension since Korin will deal even more damage (while providing shields), and Reinier will provide more debuffs to the boss. Make sure to teleport Korin to the front of the boss using Reinier.

Team to use when boss drops under 50%
Once the Alpha Bear’s health drops below 50%, this is the best time to add Vala to the team. Vala shines in bosses with less than 50% health because of Sword mode, where she deals additional damage based on the enemies’ lost health, in addition to the extra damage she already deals when the enemy is below 50%.

The Starshard Spell artifact is invaluable for teams facing Primal Lord: Alpha Bear, providing a team-wide benefit that triggers a flame wave dealing true damage to the boss after every four ultimate casts.
Remember, the goal is to survive and deal as much damage as possible to gain more rewards. Putting five DPS on the team is not as efficient as making a standard team with two healers for this boss.
