Omen continues to be one of the most-picked Valorant agents following a recent buff.
Valorant is a free-to-play team-based first-person shooter (FPS) developed and published by Riot Games. Players can go on chill games with Unrated and Spike Rush or rise through the ranks through Competitive.
Players pick Agents who are characters from different countries and cultures worldwide. They have their own unique set of abilities and gadgets that would help the team in various ways. There are four roles: Sentinel, Duelist, Initiator, and Controller.
Omen is one of the top-picked Controllers in the game alongside Viper. From the Valorant Champions Tour 2024: Masters Madrid, Omen’s pick rate was at 68%, being picked 100% of the time in Split, Lotus, and Ascent. Omen’s pick rate is also high in the Champions Tour 2024: Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China.
Omen’s spot as a solid Controller continues as he received a buff in the Valorant 8.07 patch last April 16, 2024.
In the Valorant 8.07 update, “Omen is now able to pick up the Spike and interact with other useables like doors while in the Shade form of From the Shadows (X) without having to cancel the ability. Our goal is to make these interactions more intuitive and clearly intended.”
Prior to the patch, Omen users had to stand directly on top of the spike to get it. They had to know where the spike was exactly to avoid missing it. This is crucial, especially in situations where the spike is heavily guarded by the enemy team. Now, players can feel more at ease as they can pick up the spike directly while in the ultimate.
Other than that, Omen can now pick up dropped guns, too. This would be helpful in eco rounds or whenever he just needs a rifle upgrade. Not only that, but Omen can now open and close doors. When playing maps such as Ascent, he can now safely use the switch to close off market in B site or tree in A site.
A player asked on Reddit whether there was anything bad about the Omen changes, but many believe this is purely a buff, albeit a quality-of-life one. Another Valorant player responded, “I mean… It’s a buff. Good to have. Will it massively shake the meta? No.”
While it doesn’t seem like a big buff, it is still a win for Omen mains as it’s not a nerf. With or without the buff, Omen remains to be the top pick for Controllers in most maps besides Viper. The slight change can be used in team strategies or just mess around in Unrated.
