Honkai: Star Rail has recently challenged its players with what many consider the “hardest” Memory of Chaos (MoC) encounter yet, featuring the Aventurine boss.
Developed by HoYoverse, Honkai: Star Rail is a turn-based RPG that builds on the popular elements of previous Honkai series games. The game sets players on a journey across multiple worlds as they combat the disastrous effects of Stellaron.
In the latest Memory of Chaos (MoC), the Aventurine boss known as Ten Stonehearts: Aventurine of Stratagems poses a formidable challenge due to his unique “dice phase” attacks, which require players to manage dice-based combat mechanics strategically.
The randomness of dice rolls adds a significant layer of unpredictability, heavily influencing the battle’s outcome and making the current MoC the “hardest” yet.
One player stated, “Do you guys think this is the hardest MOC so far?: After much trial and error, I finally managed to 3-star MOC 12. I have never struggled this much since I started the game.”
Aventurine’s most contentious tactic is his “Big Spenders’ Mad Party” attack in the second phase. This attack involves all characters in a dice roll challenge, where those who roll lower than Aventurine suffer massive damage.
He is also vulnerable to attacks once in this phase, which makes him harder to face. The reliance on RNG during this phase can lead to significant setbacks, frustrating many players.
One player criticized the frequent use of this phase: “Aventurine shouldn’t be spamming his dice phase as much as he is; it’s just obnoxious.”
The second half of the MoC with the Aventurine boss has been incredibly taxing for players. Once every character has had their turn, Aventurine attacks all those who lost the dice roll, dealing significant damage.
I’ve personally experienced the second half of the MoC with the Aventurine boss, and it all comes down to RNG. The Aventurine boss takes consecutive turns, repeatedly engages in his dice phase, and triggers his invulnerability phase, which consumes valuable turns and Skill Points.
The high damage and randomness of the dice rolls forced me to restart many of my attempts. These elements can significantly impact the outcome of your run, particularly at critical moments — a sentiment that many other players and I share.
“Yes, f**k the second half. The first half went reasonably well; 2 cycles thought I should be able to make it, no problem. Then came Aventurine. The delay in the dice rolls phase, on top of wasting the MoC buff on the dice, is just awful,” another player lamented.
Furthermore, some players feel that Aventurine’s design may not be well-suited for MoC settings, which are restricted by cycle limits. This design choice adds a layer of difficulty, particularly challenging for free-to-play (F2P) players who might not have the optimal characters or relics for this battle.
Aventurine boss’ addition to Honkai: Star Rail’s Memory of Chaos has undoubtedly shaken up the gameplay, testing the mettle of its players like never before.
