Stardew Valley fans were surprised after encountering a truffle rock crab while harvesting their pig’s truffles in the 1.6 update.
Stardew Valley is a cozy farming simulation game developed and published by ConcernedApe. It was released in February 2016. The game recently received its 1.6 update, which adds new content and features. This update also led to the game beating its all-time player count record in 2021.
In Stardew Valley, players can become farmers on their grandfather’s old farm plot. They have the freedom to explore the different locations in the game, socialize with the villagers, grow crops, take care of their farm animals, or explore the Mines and fight off monsters.
Monsters are usually only found in areas such as the Mines, Skull Cavern, and more. They can also be found on the farm if players choose the Wilderness map, but they’re turned off for all the other maps unless you make an offering to the Witch Hut. This was why players were surprised when encountering a rock crab while collecting their truffles.
The player shared on Reddit that they were harvesting their truffles when they noticed a rock crab hiding in one of them. Instead of a rock, the crab used the truffle as its shield or helmet. When they killed it, the monster dropped four normal-quality truffles.
A player confirmed that they were hit while harvesting truffles and became confused when they saw a rock crab underneath one. Another Stardew Valley fan also reported that they experienced the same thing but got four crabs instead of truffles.
Another Reddit user watched the Perfection summit cutscene and saw two rock crabs in the monster list, one of which appeared as a truffle. This may confirm that truffle crabs are something new in the 1.6 update.
Like other monsters, rock crabs are mostly seen in their respective areas, such as the Mines, so it can be peculiar to see one on the farm itself—even hiding underneath a truffle!
I’ll have to rush through my new 1.6 playthrough to see these truffle crabs myself. The update has made many changes, so there are definitely more things to discover as players progress!
