Naughty Dog could be working on a remake of the first Uncharted game.
A recent tweet from Twitter user @NextGenPlayer mentioned that the first Uncharted game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, is allegedly getting a full remake for the PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, their sources have no idea who is developing such a game – they’re not sure if Naughty Dog is working on the Uncharted 1 remake or not.
Interestingly, the same could be said about a post on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit. According to u/gonnabecrazy69, XboxEra’s Nick Baker and Jon Clarke stated during a recent XboxEra podcast that both independently heard that the first Uncharted game is getting a remake for current-gen (PS5), though they don’t know which developer is working on it.
Although it’s difficult to pinpoint which developer is working on the remake, there is a chance that Naughty Dog itself is working on the Uncharted 1 remake. A series of tweets from Twitter user @Speclizer revealed that Naughty Dog was working on a remake of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune behind the scenes, even when working on The Last of Us 2.
According to Speclizer’s tweets, they encountered code from what could be Naughty Dog’s code for Uncharted 1 within The Last of Us 2’s code. The code they found referenced a plane crash scene in Uncharted 1 – the time when the plane Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher were on was brought down by anti-aircraft fire by a then-unknown group.
Their tweets also revealed that Sony’s Visual Arts Service Group would reportedly like to work on the Uncharted 1 remake based on information from a leftover TLOU2 dev task file. The rumored remake might also run on the latest engine Naughty Dog has.
Although information about a remake of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is still rumored at best, it is making gamers excited nonetheless. Despite the first Uncharted game being playable on Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection, it is a PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5 port of the hit PlayStation 2 game.
Uncharted fans may recall that Naughty Dog released Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune on November 19, 2007; almost two decades have passed since its release. Even with The Nathan Drake Collection being playable, many Uncharted fans are hoping Naughty Dog will remake the first game.
Either way, Naughty Dog possibly remaking Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is big. The game may be a product of its time, but fans believe it has everything a game needs to keep players invested from start to finish. Critics from the likes of IGN, Gamespot, and Eurogamer gave it almost glowing reviews (four to five stars) because of its engaging story, fun gameplay, and outstanding score.
Neither Naughty Dog nor Sony has addressed the rumors about a possible Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune remake as of press time.
